Hello and welcome to The Seattle Otterman! What, you are likely asking, is The Seattle Otterman? A very good question! This is the place where the curious, the querulous, the intrigued and the wondering (and anybody else with a healthy dose of interest in the plain old weird) can find out about some of the strange mysteries of this part of the world. Now, you may be of the school of thought that Seattle is a pretty tame place, all coffee shops and software geeks. Well, before there was cappuccino or computers, Seattle (or what there was before there was a Seattle) had a long, rich history of the bizarre, which continues into the modern age.

Over the next few months (and beyond!) we will be bringing you tales that will perk up that part of your brain susceptible to the creepy-crawly, the weird, the downright scary and the wow-I-didn’t-know-that!. And if you think Sasquatch is the strangest fellow around these parts, hang around and you will get to know some of his buddies, like our eponymous Otterman.

This isn’t a place for ghost stories, though Seattle has its share. Not that there’s anything wrong with ghost stories, but honestly, there’s plenty of places you can go to read about them (for example, spookedinseattle.com). We’re here primarily dealing with the physical, the cryptozoological, the historical weirdness that makes this city so much more interesting than most people realize.

For example, did you know that the before days of the first white settlers, there were numerous reports of mer-people in Puget Sound? Or that there is a secret network of tunnels under the University of Washington and its surrounding area? How about the giant elk who prowled the shores of Lake Washington, dragging hapless natives under the waves and drowning them?

Exactly! That’s what we’re talking about here at The Seattle Otterman, that and more! Yes, as a great man once said, “Damn, Seattle sure is a weird place!” You said it, and if you care to find out just how weird, then come on along and join us. The Seattle Otterman will be your guide! Don’t be afraid….or at least, not too afraid!
